About the Role

Wise Minds Therapeutic Services is seeking compassionate 1:1 Support Staff to work with youth in out-of-home care across Allegany and Garrett Counties. Based in or near Cumberland, this role involves traveling to homes, schools, or community-based settings to provide structured emotional support, behavioral redirection, and safety supervision.

Required:

1-2 years working with youth or behavioral health

This is a contracted role under the Maryland Department of Human Services (DHS), ideal for those living in rural areas with a passion for helping youth succeed in challenging environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and support youth on a 1:1 basis
  • Use trauma-informed strategies to redirect behavior and de-escalate conflict
  • Support youth through coaching, modeling, and skill-building
  • Document services accurately and promptly
  • Maintain youth safety and comply with mandated reporting laws
Requirements
  • 21+ years old with a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • High School Diploma/GED + 2 years experience OR Associate’s degree + 1 year in human services
  • Must pass background check and fingerprinting
  • Willingness to travel across remote or rural communities
  • Flexible schedule availability
Required Training (Upon Hire)
  • CPR and First Aid
  • Crisis Prevention & De-escalation (e.g., CPI)
  • Trauma-Informed Care
  • Mandated Reporter Training
  • HIPAA / Confidentiality Awareness
  • DHS Orientation & Policy Review
Preferred Training (After Onboarding)

Ongoing Training Requirement

All staff must complete two (2) in-service trainings per year, such as:
