Position Summary

As a Manager of Finance, you will be responsible for financial reporting, forecasting, and analysis within the Aetna Better Health of Virginia Medicaid health plan. This role requires strong time‑management, organization, and communication skills along with a keen attention to detail and the ability to thrive in a dynamic environment. You will juggle multiple deliverables with hard deadlines, prioritize effectively, and work cross‑functionally with actuarial, accounting, finance, operations, and health plan leadership to drive performance management and understand the business.

You will have visibility into membership, revenue, and cost forecasting.

The ideal candidate will be an excellent communicator, curious, able to manipulate large data sets, and able to articulate trends through data and analytics that support Aetna’s financial and strategic goals. They will have prior finance and accounting experience in the health‑care field, with Medicaid preferred. They will drive insightful reporting and be a collaborative member of our small finance team.

Activities

that this role will oversee include:
  • Prepare and deliver daily, weekly, and monthly financial reports, regulatory reports, and financial packages to support organizational objectives.
  • Develop and communicate financial projection assumptions.
  • Create effective reporting for leadership reviews during quarterly projection cycles.
  • Analyze drivers of variances to forecasts and budgets.
  • Understand and create reporting to explain general and administrative costs, both indirect and direct.
  • Assist audit team lead by preparing deliverables for external auditors.
  • Perform state reporting as needed.
  • Evaluate internal reporting such as the Restatement Report and the MLR/UWG report.
  • Conduct in‑depth financial analysis to evaluate profitability, medical expense, and administrative costs.
  • Provide reporting and insight to competitors using publicly available data on the DMAS website.
  • Enhance processes to incorporate additional financial detail to support the Virginia Medicaid health plan.
  • Contribute to monthly and quarterly reporting packages and formal business reviews, and participate in leadership presentations.
  • Ensure quality financial summaries and present complex dashboard information to management.
  • Collaborate with business leaders to identify improvement areas, cost‑saving opportunities, and revenue growth strategies.
  • Identify trends in data analysis and report key findings to manager.
  • Prepare complex ad‑hoc monthly reports for expenses, staffing, and key performance metrics.
  • Streamline processes for efficiency and identify cost and time savings opportunities within defined scope.
  • Understand and articulate key business drivers and market trends.

This role is work‑at‑home flexible and requires working according to Central/Eastern time‑zone hours.

Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience with financial planning and analysis.
  • 3+ years of experience working with Excel.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem‑solving skills.
  • Strong organizational skills, including prioritization and escalation of issues when appropriate.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Medicaid, Medicare, or managed‑care experience preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage time effectively amid competing priorities.
  • Experience with Oracle.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
Education

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required, preferring degrees in Finance, Accounting, Actuarial Science, Math, Data Science, Computer Science, or related…
