Senior BNG Specialist – WSP UK & Ireland
Join WSP, one of the world’s leading engineering and professional services firms, to shape biodiversity net gain (BNG) outcomes in Scotland and Ireland. Be part of our Nature Services and BNG Team based in Edinburgh or Glasgow, working on diverse projects with technical experts.
Responsibilities- Plan and conduct terrestrial ecology surveys (UK Habitat, HCA, NVC, protected species).
- Perform BNG assessments using Defra and client toolkits and guidance.
- Consult with clients and project design teams, liaising with GIS specialists.
- Prepare ecological deliverables:
Baseline Reports, Preliminary Ecological Appraisals and Appropriate Assessments. - Manage tasks and support tendering and project management as required.
- Mentor junior staff and peers.
- Attend weekly and monthly Ecology team meetings and BNG resourcing meetings.
- Utilise a generous training and career development budget for professional growth.
- Academic qualification in Ecology or a related discipline.
- Full membership of CIEEM (or working towards Chartership).
- Relevant experience in ecological consultancy or regulatory role.
- Strong communication, people management and positive team attitude.
- Knowledge of Scottish habitats, Phase 1, NVC, HCA and Defra Metric/SSE Toolkits.
- Experience with design development processes, EIA, PEA and planning applications.
- Capability to produce high‑quality, scientifically robust reports.
- Familiarity with local and national planning guidance (e.g., NPF4).
- Proficiency in GIS (Arc Map or QGIS) and field survey software (Coreo, Fieldmaps, Survey
123).
