Help us make a big green dent in the universe. We're on a mission to drive the global renewable energy revolution, and we need many more people to help us make our vision a reality.

Octopus Energy Generation (OEGEN) is a leader in sourcing, investing in, and managing a wide range of utility‑scale renewable energy assets. As we continue to expand our investment base, we are dedicated to building a diverse team that reflects the communities we serve. Currently, we manage a global portfolio of over £7 billion in renewable energy assets.

We are committed to delivering best‑in‑class responsible investment activity, offering like‑minded investors the means and products to invest their capital sustainably. It is our ambition to change the entire energy lifecycle and make every green electron matter, delivering the best outcomes for customers, investors, the environment and society, accelerating the transition to net zero.

About the role

The role sits within the Octopus Energy Generation’s Funds Finance team, reporting directly into a Finance Manager. OEGEN Funds Finance are responsible for the financial reporting and analysis for an expanding portfolio of renewable assets that are owned by a number of Retail, Institutional and Listed Funds. These assets have a growing international presence across the UK, US, Europe, Australia and Asia.

The team interacts with several other teams across OEGEN and its wider business, so it is imperative that the Management Accountant is able to build strong working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.

While much of the day‑to‑day operations and accounting are outsourced, this role will be responsible for the quality of the management accounts and financial information at the asset level and so will spend a high proportion of their time managing the performance of the external accounting teams. This will include supporting and improving information flows between teams, managing the quality of their outputs and establishing appropriate controls.

This is a wide‑ranging role and will require the ability to manage a range of stakeholders and deliver to tight timelines.

What you’ll do
  • Review and challenge management accounts provided by external accountants.
  • Report on the financial performance of the operational portfolios at monthly Customer Board meetings.
  • Ensure financial information and commentary is accurately presented in Investor Reports.
  • Deal with finance related queries on portfolios – taking ownership of requests and issues, providing appropriate solutions in a timely manner.
  • Work closely with the OEGEN commercial asset managers to prepare budgets and monitor all costs against these budgets.
  • Assist the fund management team in quarterly valuations.
  • Assist the operational onboarding of new investments into OEGEN’s finance and reporting processes.
  • Assist with the audit of the underlying assets.
  • Assist with the financial DD queries arising from asset sales.
  • Project manage audits and review of statutory financial statements; liaise with external auditors as required.
  • Manage payment approvals as appropriate.
  • Ensure a robust control environment is present throughout the portfolio. This could involve insisting on the utilisation of OEGEN’s systems for new assets/projects.
  • Be a valued business partner and build and maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Identify system improvements and take ownership of driving change across the team. This will involve working closely with external accountants to improve current processes across the portfolio.
  • Prepare ad‑hoc reports and analysis as required.
What you’ll need
  • Qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA).
  • Good technical knowledge of UK GAAP.
  • Able to complete and review consolidations.
  • Knowledge of investment entity accounting is beneficial.
  • Experience of working with renewable energy investment assets and an understanding of relevant subsidy schemes is preferable.
  • Good understanding of CIR and other basis tax rules would be an advantage.
Qualities and characteristics
  • Highly organised, able to plan ahead to deliver accurate information to tight reporting deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills, with a proven ability to work well with different teams and manage a range of different stakeholders.
  • Self‑motivated and aspirational, comfortable working in a fast‑paced changing environment.

As an equal opportunity employer, we do not discriminate on the basis of any protected attribute. Our commitment is to provide equal opportunities, an inclusive work environment, and fairness for everyone.
