You will work as part of the team to provide high quality care to service users to promote their independence and support their well-being of
their daily lives. In addition, support workers are to ensure Health and Social Care Standards are being followed.
MainDuties & Responsibilities Key Tasks
- Provide emotional support to service users and their families.
- Provide practical support for service users and their families, such as helping with household tasks or paperwork as specified on the electronic care planning system by request of the Team Manager.
- Provide personal, social, and domestic care as documented in the service user’s individual support plan.
- Assisting with personal care at home and social (e.g dressing, toileting, bathing, intimate personal care etc.).
- Support and monitor the service user’s healthcare needs, including medication and temperature checks.
- Support service users to pursue hobbies and interests.
- Encourage and support service users to keep a healthy routine.
- Help with everyday tasks such as meal preparation, going shopping or maintaining a tidy house.
- Understand the service user’s communication needs and adapt your communication to each service users e.g sounds, tones, body language.
- Become a role model and companion to the service users.
- Document the service user’s progression on the electronic care planning system.
- Clock in and out of each service users’ home and other work locations through the electronic care planning system.
- To adhere to Health and Safety Regulations.
- Ensure that all service users are treated with dignity and respect.
- Respect confidentiality at all times.
- To promote a service users independence with an enabling ethos of ‘doing with’, not ‘doing for’.
- To complete mandatory online training.
- Participate in an induction programme.
- Notify the Team Manager immediately of any changes in availability to work.
- Liaise regularly with the Team Managers and colleagues.
- Provide flexible cover for colleagues in the event of holiday and sickness, working as part of a caringteam.
- Work across all areas of the service as required by the business.
- Follow incident reporting processes in line with company policy.
Where an employee can legally drive in UK, the below responsibilities form part of their job description;
- Drive to/ from services users homes and other work locations.
- Transport colleagues as passengers, whether in own car or Company Car for work purposes.
- Drive with service users as passengers as part of work activities such as attending appointments or part of social care- under express guidance and authorisation from Team Leader, adhering to guidance for each individual service user (i.e. may have to use Service users own car).
- At all times adhere to the Company Driving Policy, and/ or Company Vehicle Policy
- It is a condition of continuous employment that you maintain a full UK Drivers Licence
- To work within the National Care standards and Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) codes of practice at all times.
- You must seek and accept advice from your line manager when required, and be clear on the scope of your practice, competency, and accountability.
- You will adhere to ALL company policies and procedures.
- Comply with Care Inspectorate requirements by providing all the relevant documents
- Good written and verbal communication.
- Good time management skills.
- Honesty, reliability, empathy, caring, and a professional attitude.
- Previous experience working within care industry.
- Evidence of development of your knowledge.
