Senior Java Developer - Trading Systems

• Contract Length: 6 months (with potential extension)
• Location: Remote (UK-based candidates only)

We are looking for an experienced Senior Java Developer with a strong background in trading systems to join a high-performing technology team on a 6-month contract. The role involves working on business-critical, low-latency trading applications, with exposure to FIX protocol integration and real-time market data.

This is a fully remote role, but candidates must be based in the UK
.

• Design, develop, and maintain high-performance Java applications used in trading environments
• Work on real-time trading systems, order management, and/or market data platforms
• Implement and support FIX protocol integrations with external counter parties and venues
• Collaborate closely with traders, quants, and other engineers to deliver robust solutions
• Contribute to system architecture, performance tuning, and scalability improvements
• Write clean, well-tested, and maintainable code following best practices
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues

• Strong commercial experience as a Senior Java Developer (Java 8+)
• Proven experience working in financial trading environments (e.g. investment banking, hedge funds, prop trading, fintech)
• Solid understanding of low-latency, high-throughput systems
• Experience with FIX protocol (FIX engine integration, message flows, sessions) – highly desirable
• Strong knowledge of multithreading, concurrency, and performance optimisation
• Experience with relational databases (e.g. Oracle, Postgre
  
  SQL)
• Familiarity with Linux-based environments
• Experience with FIX engines such as Quick
  
  FIX/J or similar
• Knowledge of asset classes such as FX, Equities, Fixed Income, or Derivatives
• Exposure to messaging systems (Kafka, Solace, MQ, etc.)
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and modern Dev Ops practices
