Job Summary
Our busy workshop team needs a manual/CNC Centre Lathe Turner to carry out a variety of key tasks. The successful candidate will have experience of internal taper tuning of medium lathe size.
Required to Program (XYZ), set up, operate, and maintain computer numerical control (CNC – XYZ) lathes to produce precision metal or plastic components according to engineering drawings and specifications. The role requires attention to detail, technical skill, and a strong understanding of machining processes.
Responsibilities- Program, set up, and operate XYZ / Fanuc CNC lathe machines to manufacture parts
- Interpret technical drawings.
- Select appropriate cutting tools, inserts, and materials.
- Monitor machine operations and adjust settings for accuracy and quality.
- Measure finished parts using precision instruments (micrometers, calipers, gauges).
- Perform routine machine maintenance and troubleshoot issues.
- Ensure production meets quality standards and tolerances.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Follow all health and safety procedures.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
- Knowledge of machining techniques, speeds, and feeds.
- Familiarity with G‑code programming & XYZ Protatrak (desirable).
- Strong attention to detail and problem‑solving skills.
- Basic math skills (geometry, measurements, tolerances).
- Ability to use precision measuring tools.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Apprenticeship, NVQ, or equivalent in Engineering/Machining (UK context).
- Previous experience in a machining or manufacturing environment.
- Experience with CNC programming is an advantage.
