We are the University of Cumbria, for and from Cumbria and our localities, rooted in serving our communities, with people, place and partnership at our heart.
Now is a very exciting time to be joining us because we are delivering a new "Towards 2030" strategic plan focused on making the most of our three most valuable assets;
People, Place and Partnerships, to become a catalyst for economic well-being for our region, nationally and internationally.
The Institute of Science and Environment (IoSE) is seeking to recruit a Lecturer in Zoology who has broad knowledge of Zoology from a practical and/or academic perspective. The post holder will join a successful, experienced and ambitious academic team with a reputation for innovation in course design, delivery and growing international reputation for research and knowledge exchange. Situated at our Carlisle campus, the zoology programme is ideally positioned with mixed woodland, grassland and riverine habitats just a short walk from the campus, offering amazing outdoor teaching opportunities.
We have a strong focus on practical and applied zoology as well as natural history and would welcome a team member who shares our passion for teaching research-informed knowledge and skills, in the classroom and within the unique Cumbrian landscape and beyond.
The successful candidate will ideally have (or be working towards) a PhD in Zoology or related subject, be able to demonstrate experience relevant to teaching at HE level and a strong interest in developing both their research/knowledge exchange and teaching profile. We would particularly welcome applications from candidates with experience in; field ecology and/or conservation biology and/or GIS and remote sensing.
As well as the requisite academic and technical skills, we are seeking candidates who can work as part of a team demonstrating skills in project and time management and a passion for teaching and learning.
The post holder will be required to contribute to the delivery of core zoology modules across Programmes and year groups. They will also be expected to actively engage with research and scholarship in their specialist field, e.g. publishing scientific papers, attending conferences and engaging with stakeholders. It is also expected that the post holder will use their research to support their teaching and extend, transform and develop the Zoology programme and our wider portfolio.
