Adventure Lead at Vision of Adventure

Lead life-changing outdoor adventures for visually impaired and blind adults.

Vision of Adventure is seeking an experienced and passionate Adventure Lead to provide leadership for our outdoor programme, instructors and volunteers while helping deliver transformational residential adventure experiences for visually impaired adults across the UK.

Since 2018, Vision of Adventure has enabled hundreds of visually impaired adults to experience challenge, achievement, independence and connection through activities including climbing, caving, hillwalking, tandem cycling and open-water swimming.

This is a rare opportunity to combine outdoor leadership, programme management and hands‑on instructional delivery within a small but ambitious charity.

The Role

The Adventure Lead is responsible for ensuring the safe, compliant and high-quality delivery of Vision of Adventure's adventurous activity programme.

Working closely with Trustees, staff, instructors and volunteers, you will:

  • Lead and support instructors, volunteer sighted guides and operational volunteers
  • Plan and coordinate residential courses and adventurous activities
  • Maintain high standards of safety, safeguarding and risk management
  • Support instructor recruitment, development and quality assurance
  • Oversee equipment, operational systems and programme delivery
  • Play an active role delivering activities on residential courses

This role combines approximately one day per week (0.2 FTE / 7.5 hours) of leadership and administration with 25–80 days per year delivering activities on residential programmes.

About You

We're looking for someone who can balance strategic oversight with practical delivery and who enjoys working within a small, values-driven organisation.

You will have:

  • Significant experience leading adventurous outdoor activities
  • Relevant technical qualifications and instructional experience
  • Experience coordinating or leading staff, volunteers or instructor teams
  • Strong organisational, planning and administrative skills
  • Experience managing risk, safety and compliance
  • A full driving licence (including minibus entitlement)
  • A commitment to inclusion and empowering visually impaired people
Location
  • Kendal area, Cumbria
  • Administrative element based primarily at our office in Kendal
  • Regular delivery on residential courses across Cumbria, Lancashire, Yorkshire and beyond

Equivalent to £7,200–£7,740 per annum for the contracted leadership and administration element, plus additional payment for course delivery days at our instructor day rates.
