Position: 19077 - Probation Service Officer

Salary: £28,064 – £33,549 (pro‑rata for part‑time roles)

Working pattern:
Full Time, Part Time

Overview

Your role is to support people on probation before and after sentence. You will work with medium and lower risk offenders, providing risk assessment, plan and support services. You will help offenders access housing, employment and other services, while ensuring public safety.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a caseload of offenders before and after sentence.
  • Assess and manage risks to the public and the offender.
  • Produce clear, accurate reports to tight deadlines.
  • Provide information to courts and work closely with agencies in the justice system.
  • Offer practical advice on housing, employment and other needs.
  • Support offenders through listening, empathy and guidance.
Qualifications & Personal Qualities
  • Empathetic, patient and resilient attitude.
  • Strong written communication skills; able to produce reports quickly.
  • Experience working with people who have social or personal difficulties.
  • No degree required; focus is on personal qualities.
National Police Service Requirements
  • Right to work in the UK and full Civil Service eligibility.
  • All candidates subject to security and identity checks before taking up post.
