The Automotive Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for optimizing the manufacturing process of exhaust assemblies and leading new product introduction (NPI) initiatives. This role requires a strong understanding of manufacturing principles, problem-solving abilities, and proficiency in Solid Works. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on individual with a proven track record of driving process improvements, cost reductions, and successful product launches.
Responsibilities- Process Development and Optimization:
- Develop and implement efficient manufacturing processes for exhaust assemblies, including welding and robotic automation.
- Analyze existing processes to identify bottlenecks and areas for improvement.
- Conduct time and motion studies to optimize production efficiency.
- Implement lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement initiatives (Kaizen).
- Support work instructions and process flow updates.
- Fixture and Gauge Design:
- Design and develop fixtures and gauges using Solid Works to ensure product quality and consistency.
- Collaborate with Quality, Design engineering, and Maintenance departments to implement new fixtures and gauges.
- Conduct fixture and gauge validation testing.
- Welding and Robotic Programming:
- Develop and optimize welding processes to meet product specifications.
- Program and troubleshoot robotic welding systems.
- Collaborate with welding and robotic operators to ensure efficient and high-quality production.
- New Product Introduction (APQP):
- Work with Program Management for APQP activities for new exhaust assembly projects.
- Develop process FMEAs with the Manufacturing Engineering Team
- Create and execute product launch plans.
- Support PPAP submission and approval.
- Manage product launch milestones and deliverables.
- Problem Solving:
- Troubleshoot manufacturing issues, including welding and robotic related problems, and implement corrective actions.
- Conduct root cause analysis to identify and eliminate process defects.
- Provide technical support to production operators.
- Project Management:
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and budgets.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure project success.
- Quality Assurance:
- Monitor product quality and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Develop and maintain quality control plans.
- Bachelor s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in automotive manufacturing.
- Proficiency in Solid Works for fixture and gauge design.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, including welding and assembly
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and Kaizen methodology.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong project management and organizational abilities.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Experience in welding processes and procedures.
- Knowledge of robotic programming and operation.
- Experience working with APQP projects.
- Knowledge of quality tools (FMEA, PPAP, SPC, etc.).
- Experience with exhaust system manufacturing.
- Knowledge of statistical process control (SPC).
- Proficient with automation and robotics.
