We are seeking a Cost Estimator to work with a global tech client on innovative retail construction projects in Cupertino, California. The Cost Estimator will be responsible for developing accurate and detailed cost estimates for retail construction projects, ensuring the financial feasibility of the project from pre‑construction through completion.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates for retail construction projects, including new builds, remodels, tenant improvements, and renovations.
  • Assess the scope of work, interpret drawings and specifications, and apply knowledge of construction materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor pricing to develop comprehensive estimates.
  • Identify and quantify all direct and indirect costs associated with the project, including site work, building systems, finishes, and any other specific requirements for retail environments.
  • Perform value engineering to help clients meet budget goals without compromising quality or functionality.
  • Develop and maintain cost databases for historical pricing information and industry trends to ensure accuracy in future estimates.
  • Assist in soliciting bids from subcontractors and suppliers, ensuring that they are competitive and meet project requirements.
  • Review and analyze bid proposals and contracts to identify discrepancies or inconsistencies.
  • Prepare cost analysis reports and present findings to clients and senior management.
  • Monitor construction costs throughout the project lifecycle to ensure adherence to the budget.
  • Provide regular updates to project teams on cost status and any potential financial risks or deviations.
  • Assist in forecasting and managing cash flow requirements for retail construction projects.
  • Work closely with project managers, architects, engineers, and subcontractors to understand project requirements and provide timely, accurate estimates.
  • Coordinate with design teams to ensure that project scope and materials are clearly defined and aligned with cost projections.
  • Attend project meetings and provide input on cost management, budget changes, and cost‑saving opportunities.
  • Maintain detailed records of cost estimates, change orders, and project documentation for reference and auditing purposes.
  • Prepare and submit formal reports, including cost estimates, budget summaries, and analysis of cost variances.
  • Identify and assess potential cost risks during pre‑construction and construction phases and provide recommendations for mitigation.
  • Stay up to date on industry trends, economic factors, and regulatory changes that may affect project costs or timelines.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in cost estimating within the retail construction sector or related industries (e.g., commercial, hospitality, or institutional construction).
  • Deep understanding of all aspects of cost estimation, including material costs, labor rates, and the integration of technology and specialized systems in retail environments.
  • Knowledge of local construction codes, regulations, and industry standards specific to retail construction.
  • Strong understanding of construction processes, materials, labor costs, and project lifecycle.
  • Proficiency with cost estimating software (e.g., Pro Est, Buildertrend, Procore, Bluebeam, or similar tools).
  • Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex data in a clear and concise manner.
  • Associate or Professional Estimator Certification (e.g., AACE, ASPE) is advantageous.
  • Full‑time office environment, with periodic visits to job sites as required.
