Software Development Engineer, Nitro SSD – Amazon Web Services (AWS)

Overview

AWS Hardware Engineering Services support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on challenging problems that impact the supply chain and help teams deliver safety, security, and low‑cost capacity at scale.

You will design AWS‑specific hardware, firmware, and software for non‑volatile memory devices, including NAND‑based SSDs. From conception to validation to production you will contribute to firmware development, device characterization, and benchmarking, collaborating with AWS software engineers to tailor devices for the AWS environment.

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent
• 3+ years of non‑internship professional software development experience
• 3+ years of design/architecture of new and existing systems experience
• 3+ years of embedded firmware development experience
• 3+ years of computer science fundamentals experience
• Experience with the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, testing, and operations
• Embedded development experience in C/C++ or another software programming language

• 5+ years of full software development life cycle experience
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
• Deep understanding of SSD hardware architecture and concepts such as wear‑leveling and garbage collection
• 5+ years of hands‑on firmware development for SSDs or related storage devices
• High‑level understanding of storage technologies and block interface protocols
• Exceeds Amazon’s leadership principles and functional/technical depth for this role

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several U.S. geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $129,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
