Associate teacher (orchestral percussion + drums)
University of St Andrews Music Centre
Associate Teacher in orchestral percussion & drum kit delivering individual teaching, coaching, and leading ensembles, while coordinating percussion activity across the University and wider St Andrews.
The University of St Andrews Music Centre is seeking to appoint a new Associate Teacher in Orchestral Percussion and Drum Kit to begin in the next academic year.
This is a part‑time, self‑employed position paid on an hourly basis. While the role operates on a freelance model, the Music Centre provides substantial administrative support, including the processing of invoicing on behalf of the teacher.
It is anticipated that the successful candidate will undertake approximately two full days of teaching per week. This will include individual tuition across all standards, alongside ensemble coaching.
An important part of the role will be leading and developing percussion ensembles. In this capacity, the postholder will act as Percussion Coordinator, working closely with Music Centre staff to shape and expand ensemble provision, foster a strong culture of percussion playing, and support the development of percussion activity across both the University and the wider St Andrews community.
We warmly welcome expressions of interest from experienced and committed music educators who wish to join a large and dynamic team of around 30 associate teachers at an exciting time for music in St Andrews.
Current hourly rate of pay: £45.50 less a small admin charge of 4% (tracking MU rates annually).
