At Cwmbran High School, we believe that every young person deserves the opportunity to learn from mistakes, rebuild relationships and succeed. We are seeking to appoint a calm, confident and highly skilled Learning Engagement Officer who can inspire trust, maintain high expectations and help pupils positively re-engage with their education. This is a rewarding role for someone who is passionate about making a lasting difference to young people's lives.
Our Re-engagement provision is a key part of our inclusive approach to behaviour and wellbeing. Designed as a structured consequence-and-support intervention, Re-engagement provides pupils with the time, guidance and reflection needed to address serious or repeated behaviour concerns. Placements are typically limited to one school day, ensuring pupils remain connected to learning while being supported to make positive choices and successfully return to mainstream lessons.
Working within our clear Reflect, Restore, Reintegrate model and under the guidance of a designated senior leader, the successful candidate will create a calm and purposeful environment where pupils can reflect on their actions, access curriculum work and engage in restorative activities. The role involves close collaboration with families, teaching staff and pastoral teams to ensure pupils are supported throughout the process and prepared for a successful reintegration into school life.
We are looking for an individual who can balance empathy with firm boundaries, using restorative approaches, de-escalation strategies and strong interpersonal skills to support positive behaviour change. The postholder will work closely with colleagues across pastoral care, attendance, safeguarding, ALN and teaching teams, using accurate record-keeping and professional judgement to help reduce repeat incidents, exclusions and lost learning. Above all, you will embody our values of Positivity, Kindness, Resilience, Respect and Creativity, while helping our young people to Strive, Believe and Achieve.
You must demonstrate how you meet the Essential criteria listed in the attached Person Specification in order to secure an interview.
This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. A comprehensive screening process will be undertaken on all successful applicants, which will include an Enhanced check with the Disclosure and Barring Service.
