Position: Temporary Site Engineer (Temporary)
Fawkes & Reece are pleased to offer an excellent opportunity for a Temporary Site Engineer to work on a 10-week substation construction project based in Nelson.

You will be working for a well-respected, award-winning main contractor operating across multiple sectors, including National Grid, highways, infrastructure, buildings, water, defence, and energy, throughout South Wales and the South West.

Role Overview

As Temporary Site Engineer, you will play a key role in the technical delivery of works on the construction of two brick-built substation block houses within a live 400kV NGET substation environment.

This role requires extensive experience in reinforced concrete (RC) structures, groundworks, and finishing works. A keen eye for detail and a strong focus on quality management are paramount.

The project comprises single-storey brickwork and blockwork structures, roof trusses and roof build-up, internal finishing works, steel door installation, M&E installation, and associated groundworks and infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

• Setting out of RC structures and embedded components including ducts, cast-in plates, holding down bolts, and service penetrations

• Setting out of groundworks elements including drainage, road construction, service ducting, earthing, and kerb lines

• Providing accurate and timely setting out in accordance with drawings and specifications

• Quality management including inspections, completion of QA documentation, managing ITP hold points, raising defects and driving resolution

• Raising and managing Technical Queries (TQs)

• Managing and maintaining site records, red-line drawings, and as-built information

• Undertaking as-built surveys and producing as-built drawings using AutoCAD

• Working alongside direct workforce and supporting subcontractor activities

• Ensuring compliance with client and site-specific rules within a live substation environment

• Supporting the site management team with technical input and progress reporting

• Assisting in preparation and implementation of SSOW, including RAMS and lift plans

• Providing mentorship and support to apprentice engineers

Required Competencies

• CSCS Card (Gold or Black preferred)

• Extensive experience in RC structures, groundworks, and finishing works

• Strong understanding of quality processes and QA documentation

• Proficient in AutoCAD for production of as-built drawings

• Experience working in live infrastructure or utility environment

Desirable (Not Essential)

• National Grid Person training

• SMSTS or SSSTS

• Temporary Works Supervisor (TWS)
