Fundamentals Fellow in Emergency Care
These 6 month - 1 year posts are an innovation by the Emergency Medicine team at the Grange University Hospital. They are well suited to those with an interest in acute care with many previous post-holders gaining valuable experience before moving into ACCS training. A number of our 6 month appointments have sought to extend their posts, having found the roles both enjoyable and educational.
These are the current applicable pay scales; however, these may change upon implementation of the framework agreement for reform to the terms and conditions of service for resident doctors and dentists in Wales. Further details can be found atBMA+-+Framework+Agreement+Wales.
Main duties of the jobThese Fundamentals Fellows posts offer clinical experience in a busy and well supported new Emergency Department. 20% of time is off the ED clinical rota for fundamental development in a number of innovative areas, including pre-hospital medicine with our physician response unit, Resus skills and Development, Teaching, Ultrasound, Radiology and Simulation.
The posts would particularly suit those who have passed their FY2 (or equivalent) competencies and have sound background knowledge of medicine, but may be undecided about their career pathway and/or would like to take time out of formal training. Within a supportive and professional team and environment, Clinical Fellows gain a broad spectrum of clinical experience and enjoy the interface with wider associated specialties, aiming always to work together to provide an excellent patient experience.
The Clinical Fellows are afforded the same training opportunities as our training posts, with access to in house training. This includes protected monthly consultant led teaching days. Study leave is encouraged and the appointees will have the opportunity to perform an audit cycle and take part in case presentations.
Clinical Fellows (CF) in Emergency Medicine assume the responsibilities normally associated with junior grade (Resident doctor) appointments in the Emergency Department (ED), and have access to a full range of IT facilities.
