Opportunity for a Band 5 Multi-skilled Laundry Maintenance Technician at Green Vale Laundry.

The role involves day‑to‑day maintenance of plant and equipment, including steam, water, electricity, and all laundry equipment, with occasional installation duties. A key focus is the optimisation of the laundry PPM system and reactive tasks such as attending to machine breakdowns.

Duty includes using resources such as strategic spares to ensure optimum plant performance, assisting the production team in achieving KPI targets. The holder must work independently under current industry and H & S standards.

The hours of work follow a continental two‑week shift pattern which includes 12‑hour shifts and weekends.

This post is a fixed‑term secondment for 6 months to cover other absence. Applicants must obtain permission from their current line manager before applying.

Main duties of the job

Qualified with a recognised apprenticeship in mechanical or electrical disciplines and a relevant City & Guilds craft certificate course. Sound knowledge of trade principles and practice.

Demonstrated understanding of engineering maintenance systems and significant experience; high versatility and flexibility in a healthcare environment.

Provide technical information and advise other staff groups on maintenance issues that may impact service delivery.

Plan and prioritise maintenance or minor works on a daily and long‑term basis to ensure plant runs at optimum daily performance.

Possess necessary IT skills to enter and manipulate data associated with frontline maintenance activities and the PPM system.

Desirable: ability to speak Welsh;

Qualifications and Knowledge
  • Range of work procedures, practices underpinned by theory or practical experience.
  • Knowledge of a full range of trade procedures through a 4‑year accredited training course, level 3 vocational qualification or equivalent, plus relevant training or equivalent experience, and additional training such as pneumatics/hydraulics.
  • Significant experience in mechanical and electrical maintenance with demonstrated versatility and flexibility.
  • Specialist knowledge of industrial laundry maintenance.
  • Evidence of significant CPD; healthcare engineering related CPD.
  • Recognised qualifications in mechanical and electrical engineering.
  • Qualifications and experience in hydraulics, pneumatics, PLC programming and steam generator control systems.
Experience
  • Significant experience in a complex engineering service industry on specialist engineering maintenance areas.
  • Completion of a structured training programme, 18th Edition, Gas Safe or F‑Gas qualification.
  • Previous experience within the NHS.
  • Experience with compressors.
  • Experience with industrial laundry equipment.
