Overview
Dimensions are proud to provide support for a gentleman, 'D', who lives in his own home in Llanfrechfa, Cwmbran NP44 8TX
. We will work with D and his current support providers to help him feel safe and secure as he builds relationships with his new support team.
'D' is a 62‑year‑old man with a moderate‑severe learning disability, epilepsy, an Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC) and a diagnosis of Schizoaffective Disorder. He can experience anxiety, complex emotional responses, and may see and hear things that are not there. He is comforted by repetition, so patience and understanding are essential.
Responsibilities- Provide support 1–4 nights per week.
- Drivers preferred due to the location of the home.
- Support an individual with a strong interest in Welsh culture and customs (good knowledge of Welsh culture an advantage).
- Adapt your support style to D’s needs on any given day.
- Maintain relationships with family and friends.
- Work as part of a team and follow clear support guidance.
- Understand and not take personally behaviours of distress which may be displayed.
- Provide intimate personal care respectfully.
- Sound understanding of the complexities of autism, epilepsy, anxiety and fluctuating mental health.
- Good understanding of positive behaviour support.
- Strong understanding of working in partnership with D, colleagues, external partners and family to achieve the best outcomes.
- Empathic ability to enable people to feel grounded and secure.
- Astute communication skills and ability to read D’s mood through body language and vocalisations.
- Willing to undertake Positive Behaviour Management practical and theoretical training.
- Positive approach to risk taking.
- Enjoy adapting your support style to D’s needs on any given day.
- Have a strong sense of the importance of maintaining relationships with family and friends.
- Be able to work as part of a team and follow clear support guidance.
- Understand, and not take personally, behaviours of distress which may be displayed.
