OverviewProvide comprehensive counseling services to diverse students in the Health Science program, focusing on transfer, degree and career planning, academic and personal life management, and equity‑focused educational support.
Responsibilities- Apply student development theory to counsel students on transfer choices, academic planning, and career decisions.
- Center equity practices to improve academic success and retention for disproportionately impacted populations.
- Advise on transfer institutions and required prerequisites.
- Manage electronic student educational plans and access student information systems.
- Provide orientation sessions on financial aid and eligibility.
- Participate in curriculum development, committees, and professional development activities.
- Plan, implement, and teach co‑curricular and special programs supporting student success.
- Contribute to Student Learning Outcomes (SLO) formulation and assessment.
- Maintain formal office and campus hours and attend departmental meetings.
- Stay current with instructional methods and emerging technologies.
- Teach scheduled courses and perform related clerical duties, complying with district, college, and division policies.
- Assist diverse students through culturally responsive teaching practices.
- Collaborate with staff and students; evening or weekend assignments may be required.
- Minimum:
Master’s in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, or related field, or a valid California teaching credential in the appropriate subject area. - Equivalent qualifications may include related education, training, employment experience; determined by the District Equivalency Committee.
- Desirable:
Two years of community college counseling experience, experience teaching student development/counseling courses, knowledge of Health Science counseling, and experience with outreach and recruiting. - Demonstrated commitment to diversity and equity‑minded practices.
- Experience counseling disproportionately impacted students and using culturally relevant pedagogies.
- Knowledge of counseling theories, transfer and articulation, career technical education, assessment, testing, education psychology, and learning theory.
$94,016 – $141,211 annually. Initial salary placement is determined by the Office of Human Resources under the faculty collective bargaining agreement and is not negotiable.
