Job Description

Teach a variety of college‑level lecture courses within the Department of Public Health and Integrative Wellness under the Kinesiology Division and classes in the related Certificate programs to a diverse student population. Intercollegiate athletics courses will not be included in this assignment.

Prepare course materials and use appropriate instructional methodologies, including delivering lectures, leading discussions, and conducting laboratory demonstrations.

Serve as either the curriculum representative and/or Academic Senator for the Kinesiology & Athletics division.

Contribute to the development and revision of course content and instructional materials, textbook/equipment selection, instructional equipment oversight, and assessment strategies.

Participate in the development and implementation of articulation agreements and actively participate in the Guided Pathways, Dual Enrollment, and Career Technical Education framework to enhance student success.

Assist with the development of scholarly and professional activities that promote economic development and partnerships with the local professional community.

Work with students and employers in occupational settings, on‑the‑job training, practicums, internships, and similar work‑related situations as needed.

Maintain professional skills and subject expertise through continual study and research and involvement in professional organizations.

Participate in curriculum development and serve on department, division, college and district committees as necessary to maintain and improve the instructional program; participate in appropriate professional development activities.

Participate in co‑curricular activities, including planning, implementing, and teaching in special programs designed to support student success.

Participate in the formulation of Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) and the SLO assessment cycle.

Maintain formal office and campus hours; participate in department and division meetings.

Maintain current knowledge of instructional methods and new technologies, learn and apply emerging technologies as necessary to perform duties efficiently and timely.

Teach scheduled classes and perform related duties as assigned, including timely compliance with clerical and administrative responsibilities and compliance with district, college and division policies.

Instruct and assist in the growth and success of a diverse population of students through careful preparation of course materials, effective teaching methodologies, and informed critical feedback on assignments and discussions.

Develop culturally relevant course content and responsive pedagogical techniques to engage students who are diverse and/or historically underserved, with experience involving African American, Latinx, Native American, Pacific Islander and other disproportionately impacted students. Work cooperatively with staff and students.

Evening and/or weekend assignments may be required as part of the regular contract.

  • All degrees and coursework used to satisfy the required minimum qualifications must be submitted from accredited postsecondary institutions. Evaluation of foreign degrees and/or coursework is required.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s in health science, health education, biology, nursing, physical education, kinesiology, exercise science, dietetics, nutrition, or public health.
  • OR Bachelor’s in any of the above AND Master’s in any biological science.
