BIM Engineer

Touchstone Engineering, a leading electrical contractor specializing in commercial construction, is seeking an experienced, dependable, highly organized BIM Engineer to support the BIM Manager in a fast-paced environment. This role requires someone proactive, detail-oriented, dependable, and capable of managing a wide range of responsibilities with a high degree of professionalism.

We are seeking a BIM Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience with various Autodesk programs to populate and coordinate Electrical/Telecom systems models and create accurate shop drawings for project deliverables, as well as field coordination team. The BIM Engineer will collaborate with project managers and other trades to ensure effective communication and project execution.

The BIM Engineer will provide support to our BIM team through the preparation of electrical BIM models, construction documents, and BIM data. You will prepare design documents for single lines, switch gear, UPS, panel boards, transformers, power, lighting, lighting control systems, fire alarm systems, cable trays, and cable pathways for ethernet and fiber systems. You will help produce, maintain, and publish permit electrical engineering drawing sets.

Ideal candidates will be working to develop skills necessary to transition into a BIM Manager role to oversee the development of plans, the projection of risks, and track project metrics.

Responsibilities and Duties:

• Works with the BIM team as well as with other teams (engineering, project management, preconstruction, etc.)

• Designing for and supporting various projects

• Analyze sketches, notes, and other input material to determine and plan the best approach to develop and complete deliverables as required with minimal supervision

• Assist with project archiving at the end of a project's completion

• Develop product libraries and families of associated devices

• Design in a fast-paced environment to meet aggressive schedules

• Update and modify existing models and construction documents as required

• Create and maintain the template files to ensure standards

• Further develop and establish company BIM standards for drafting, including layer names, line and character styles, drawings, window names, file names for sheet layout, and device details

• Run internal clash detection regularly and produce clash reports where necessary

• Participate in design coordination meetings with other trades for clash detection and resolution

• Assist in implementing and managing QA/QC systems and procedures on all projects where appropriate

• Be aware of Revit software updates and maintain training to stay proficient

• Work on concurrent projects

• Assist the project team with information exchange between Touchstone and clients

• Provide coordination support for information requests during construction phases

• Effective time management of work, allocated tasks, and personal schedules

• Travel to construction sites for engineering evaluations and surveys as required

• Reads and understands Architectural, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing drawings.

• General knowledge and understanding of the electrical codes.

Qualifications and Skills:

• 3+ years of design/engineering experience in electrical building systems

• 2+ years’ experience using Revit for producing electrical engineering BIM models and construction drawings, as well as working with design and BIM modeling teams

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering

• Prepared, developed, and maintained Revit models for building electrical systems

• Worked from architectural plans and base files to produce electrical construction documents in Revit or AutoCAD

• Proficient with Revit, AutoCAD, MS Office Suite, and Adobe/Bluebeam

• Ability to create and manage Revit families

• Practical knowledge and understanding of electrical codes and safety regulations

• Experience in effective management of assigned staff.

• Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing job requirements

• The ability to work under pressure and ensure deadlines are met while delivering high-quality work

• The ability to work as part of a team both collaboratively and cooperatively
