The Staff Accountant is a full-time, on-site role based in Houston, TX. This role is responsible for day-to-day accounting activities such as recording journal entries, maintaining the general ledger, billing and accounts receivable, accounts payable, and assisting assisting with month-end and year-end closings. The Staff Accountant will prepare and reconcile account statements, support budgeting and expense management processes, and assist with financial reporting related to real estate portfolios.
The role includes reviewing invoices, tracking property-related expenses, supporting audits, and ensuring compliance with internal controls and relevant accounting standards. Collaboration with asset managers, operations staff, and third-party vendors is expected to ensure accurate and timely financial data.
- Strong foundation in general accounting principles, including experience with journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end close processes.
- Proficiency with accounting software and Excel, including use of spreadsheets, formulas, and financial reporting tools.
- Ability to analyze financial data, identify discrepancies, and provide clear, well-documented explanations and recommendations.
- Attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills for collaborating with internal teams and external partners.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; relevant accounting or finance experience in real estate or asset management is a plus.
- Knowledge of GAAP and basic tax concepts; experience supporting audits or compliance activities is beneficial.
