Summary

CYP Assistants work directly with children and youth, keeping them actively engaged, well‑cared for, and safe while participating in the CYP. The assistant’s day includes helping children develop social skills such as making friends and conflict resolution; making healthy choices such as selecting nutritional snacks or appropriate recreational activities; building self‑help and school readiness skills; and exploring the environment around them.

• Curriculum: Develops schedules and activity plans; implements activities and special events; prepares program options for children with special requirements; demonstrates, instructs, leads, and facilitates planned and spontaneous program activities; role models best practices; promotes safety, fitness, health, nutrition; helps arrange or serve snacks or meals.
• Indoor and Outdoor Environment: Prepares, arranges and maintains activity areas; sets up displays and bulletin boards; inventories equipment; secures supplies and facilities.
• Interactions and Relationships: Establishes a program environment that sustains participant interest; interacts with children and youth using approved guidance techniques.
• Supervision of Children and Youth: Provides care and supervision; maintains control and accounts for whereabouts and safety; supervises during activities and outings; ensures authorized departure; observes and reports signs of illness or abuse; mandatory reporter to Family Advocacy and Child Protective Services.
• Parent and Employee Communication: Interacts professionally; provides parents with daily feedback; participates in conferences.
• Assessment: Observes development; participates in program evaluation using rating scales and risk assessment tools.
• Compliance: Assists in achieving and maintaining DoD certification and national accreditation; ensures compliance with law, policies and regulations.
• Additional Responsibilities: Collects, maintains, and reports program participation data; performs other related duties as assigned.

Conditions of employment:

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Complete required training certificates, and maintain certifications or credentials required by Federal, State, and/or national accreditation institutions used as part of DoD's Child and Youth Programs.
• Pass all applicable records and background checks.
• Undergo pre‑employment and random drug testing; a positive test or failure to submit is a basis for removal.
• Pass a pre‑employment physical, provide evidence of immunization, be free of all communicable diseases, and obtain appropriate immunization.
• Employment contingent upon proof of education if not provided at time of application.
• Marijuana is a Schedule I drug under the Controlled Substances Act; use is illegal under Federal law regardless of State laws.
• A positive drug test result for marijuana will result in withdrawal of offer and ineligibility for 6 months.
• This position is a Test Designated Position (TDP). Incumbent will be subject to and must consent to a pre‑employment and random drug testing.
