Position: Technical Director, 19 SDS

Overview

The United States Space Force (USSF) Space Operations Command (SpOC) at Dahlgren, Virginia is searching for a Technical Director (NH-0301-04, GS-14/15 equivalent) to lead the Mission Assurance Branch for the 19th Space Defense Squadron. The role provides leadership as the top-ranking civilian and senior technical advisor to the Commander, guiding a team of IT and computer specialists to support Space Domain Awareness (SDA) and Space Traffic Management (STM) missions.

The position requires expertise in multidisciplinary engineering with a focus on SDA, and the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI clearance. A bachelor’s degree is highly desired.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and mentor a team of IT and computer specialists to accomplish SDA and STM missions.
  • Serve as the squadron’s senior civilian authority and the Commander's top technical advisor.
  • Guide complex technical projects, applying expert-level knowledge of multidisciplinary engineering to new applications and experimental theories.
  • Develop and implement capabilities to protect and defend U.S. and allied interests, including providing timely and accurate satellite data.
  • Foster professional growth within the team and build critical relationships with partners across the USSF, DoD, NASA, and private industry.
Key Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of theories, concepts, principles, standards, techniques, and materials of professional multidisciplinary engineering to apply advanced engineering principles to new applications and projects.
  • Knowledge of planning and program management to execute major projects and provide expert advice; ability to present innovative recommendations.
  • Knowledge of safety, security, personnel management, and EEO regulations, practices, and procedures.
  • Ability to plan, organize, direct organizational functions, and mentor, motivate, and appraise staff through subordinate supervisors.
  • Ability to analyze, plan, and adjust work operations to meet program requirements within available resources.
  • Strong communication skills: clear, concise, and technically accurate oral and written communication with peers, management, contractors, academia, and other agencies.
Requirements
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret security clearance with SCI access.
  • Approval to access the portfolio of Special Access Programs required to perform daily duties.
  • Ability to handle and safeguard sensitive and/or classified information in accordance with regulations.
  • Designated for drug testing; subject to random urinalysis testing as a condition of employment.
  • ABET-accredited bachelor’s degree in a professional STEM field is highly desired.
  • May be required to work overtime on an unscheduled or emergency basis.
  • Key position; incumbents must be removed from military recall status if alternatives for filling the position during an emergency are not available.
  • Eligible for situational telework only, including Emergency and OPM-prescribed “Unscheduled Telework.”
  • Subject to Temporary Duty Assignment (TDY): approximately 15 days per year.
  • May be required to travel by military or commercial aircraft for temporary duties.
  • PCS is authorized. Incentive is not authorized.
  • Position will close after 5 business days or 75 applications, whichever comes first.
