Senior Systems Administrator (Unix/Linux)
Boarhog LLC is seeking a Senior Systems Administrator to provide IT support services for day‑to‑day operations at the Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Dahlgren Division (DD) Corporate Operations Department (10 Dept) IT Division (Code 104) in Dahlgren, VA.
Job OverviewThe NSWC DD supports the development and integration of warfare systems. The 10 Dept assesses business needs and offers IT expertise. Code 104 manages the Command’s unclassified RDT&E and classified networks, including SDREN, JWICS, TS/SCI networks, and commercial Internet connections.
Key responsibilities include system administration, configuration, maintenance of servers and endpoints, support for virtualization, and participation in cybersecurity initiatives.
Functional Responsibilities- Provide system administration, configuration, and maintenance for servers, endpoints, and operating systems.
- Configure, patch, and upgrade operating systems, applications, and associated hardware to maintain performance.
- Perform database tuning, monitoring, and security, and migrate existing databases and applications.
- Manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls; conduct system performance monitoring, diagnostics, and capacity planning.
- Implement and maintain backup, recovery, and COOP procedures.
- Support installation, configuration, and administration of virtualization platforms.
- Collaborate with cybersecurity personnel to apply DISA STIGs, perform vulnerability scans, and remediate findings.
- Monitor logs, alerts, and performance metrics to identify issues and perform root‑cause analysis.
- Provide technical support and troubleshooting; prepare and maintain system documentation, configuration baselines, SOPs, and change control records.
- Six (6) years of professional experience in Unix and/or Linux system administration of networks and software systems.
- Experience in system backup and recovery.
- Basic software management.
- Security management and library management.
- Installation and configuration of hardware, operating systems, and COTS software.
- Operating computer systems in diverse operating environments.
- Sizing, performance tuning, hardware/software/network troubleshooting, and resource allocation.
- Qualified experience in network protocols, including TCP/IP, and major network security tools such as firewalls.
- Knowledge of computing and networking vulnerabilities, attack methods, and latest detection methods.
- Master’s Degree in Electrical, Electronic, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Information Systems.
- Designated as IAT III level.
- Active Top Secret security clearance.
Preference is given to candidates who reside in a Historically Underutilized Business Zone (HUBZone) as determined by the Small Business Administration.
