Job Summary

The University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for the position of Language Lab Assistant-Institutional Student Worker.

Under the supervision of the Language Lab Coordinator, Language Lab Assistants are responsible for evaluating student lab activities and providing oral and written feedback in the target language for beginning language learners (1001/1002 level) across Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Korean, Arabic, Japanese, Chinese, and Russian courses. In addition to supporting students with lab assessments, Language Lab Assistants help learners navigate lab-related technology, assist with professor-assigned projects, and provide tutoring and speaking practice upon request.

They also carry out administrative, clerical, and pedagogical tasks to ensure the efficient operation of the Lab as directed by the Language Lab Coordinator. The Language Lab may also employ non-language-specific assistants to support administrative needs, manage social media tasks, and assist students with the technological components of their assignments.

Responsibilities
  • Assessments of student lab activity or workshop submissions.
  • Assisting students with language and technology questions relative to lab assignments.
  • Provide extra help and tutoring, maintain a clean and welcoming environment, special projects/tasks as requested by faculty or the FL Lab Coordinator.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Must be able to stay calm and friendly in stressful, busy situations.
  • Must deliver excellent customer service
  • Willing to learn new software apps in order to help students complete assignments.
Required Qualifications
  • Must be enrolled at the University of North Georgia in a minimum of six (6) credit hours to qualify as a student worker.
  • Students who wish to be tutoring assistants must have completed the 2002 level in the language they plan to work in or have at least that level of proficiency as determined in the in-person interview.
