Job SummaryThe University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for a Math Tutor on the Gainesville campus. The Math Tutor provides students with tutoring in all levels of mathematics and basic Computer Science coursework offered at the University. The tutor also assists students, faculty, and staff with all services provided by Tutoring Services. Must be willing to work flexible hours, including some late evenings.
Responsibilities- Tutor all levels of math and basic computer science offered by the University in‑person and online, emphasizing both academic content and student learning styles.
- Assist with the general operations of the Tutoring Center; ensure student attendance is documented and provide general information.
- Demonstrate the use of tools and resources (manuals, guides, calculators, software) relevant to work with math assignments.
- Monitor peer tutors within work area, including periodic observation, mentoring, and addressing concerns related to fostering a collaborative learning environment.
- Coach students throughout their academic careers in learning strategies and student‑specific concerns. Provide referrals as necessary to other University services.
- Work with faculty or staff at request to review pedagogical materials (tests, assignments) for student use.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from students, faculty, staff, and the general public.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, visual or other modalities.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret texts and materials relevant to field.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and administration.
- Demonstrate the ability to use or learn to use graphing and scientific calculators.
- Keep computing skills current, particularly the most commonly used software on the network.
- Participate in appropriate professional development activities.
- Bachelor's degree required.
- One year of experience in tutoring, supplemental instruction, other academic success services, and/or teaching experience.
- Experience with Microsoft software.
- Master's degree preferred.
- Degree in math, math education, statistics or physics preferred.
