Job Summary

The University of North Georgia is accepting applications for a Peer Health Educator (Oconee)- Institutional Student Worker. Peer Health Educators will provide insights and strategies to help shape well‑being messaging and plan events to support well‑being initiatives. Selected candidate will receive training, including Peer Educator specific training and opportunities to complete a Mental Health First Aid Certification. This position will work as part of the Peer Educator Network, operating out of Campus Recreation and Wellness, to plan, promote, and implement educational events and activities on various health issues.

This is a paid student leadership position. Successful candidates will serve as a primary team lead and are expected to serve as leaders and role models in their efforts, as well as recruit volunteers. A chosen candidate can expect to receive valuable work experience, knowledge, leadership opportunities, public speaking experience, and professional leadership support.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain assigned office hours.
  • Plan, promote, and implement educational events and activities on various health issues.
  • Maintain organized calendar of upcoming presentations and events.
  • Make sure that all events and presentations are properly planned and approved by your supervisor.
  • Recruit 2–3 volunteer peer educators into the program.
  • Seek out opportunities to work collaboratively with student organizations and other departments to create, publicize, and deliver health promotion programs and events.
  • Serve as a health information and referral resource and support the volunteers to serve in the same capacity.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • The ideal candidate should have an interest in well‑being, be interested in leading a group of peer volunteers in addressing health issues relevant among UNG students, and must possess a strong desire to affect change in health behaviors through creative and effective health promotion activities, as well as the following:
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
  • Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills, and to be able to communicate effectively with their peers, University employees and possibly, community agencies.
  • Must be able to work as a team member and independently ("self‑starter").
  • Must be able to organize and manage a variety of projects simultaneously.
  • Must possess positive work attitude and be dependable and responsible.
Required Qualifications
  • Must be enrolled at the University of North Georgia in a minimum of six (6) credit hours to qualify as a student worker.
  • Must be in good academic standing (2.5 GPA).
