Job Summary:

The University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for Peer Math/Science Tutors for the Oconee campus. The Peer Math/Science Tutor is responsible for tutoring students in university-level undergraduate academic math and science courses and assisting students, faculty, and staff with all services provided by UNG tutoring centers.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver tutoring sessions to students in math and science courses.
  • Integrate study and learning strategies to promote independent learning.
  • Complete the required 10‑hour tutor training in addition to at least 25 hours of actual tutoring time, in accordance with College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) certification requirements.
  • Maintain required documentation, including client report forms as instructed by supervisor.
  • Stay knowledgeable of campus resources and make appropriate referrals; inform supervisor of such referrals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Tutoring Services Director, Assistant Directors, or Coordinator.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to establish rapport and communicate effectively with students.
  • Competency in subject matter with the ability to explain component parts concisely but clearly.
  • Friendly, personable, and empathetic toward fellow students.
  • Ability to present information effectively and respond to questions from students, faculty, staff, and the general public.
Required Qualifications
  • Must be enrolled at the University of North Georgia in a minimum of six (6) credit hours to qualify as a student worker.
  • Must have a recommendation from a professor in a course taken at the University of North Georgia; an email will suffice.
  • Must have an A or B in prospective courses tutor wishes to cover.
  • Must maintain a minimum overall GPA of 3.0.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in taking an online or hybrid course.
  • Tutoring or mentoring experience.
