Are you a hands-on Facilities Assistant, Maintenance Operative, Caretaker, or Estates Assistant looking for your next opportunity?
We're recruiting for a Facilities Assistant to join a busy and professional facilities team in Midlothian. This is a varied role where no two days are the same, offering the chance to work across building maintenance, site upkeep, compliance checks, and general facilities support.
The Role
As a Facilities Assistant, you will play a key role in ensuring buildings and grounds are maintained to a high standard, providing a safe and welcoming environment for staff, visitors, and service users.
Key responsibilities include:
β Carrying out basic building maintenance and minor repairs
β Replacing lighting and undertaking routine maintenance tasks
β Supporting the upkeep of external areas, including grounds, pathways, and parking facilities
β Conducting routine compliance checks and recording results
β Assisting with fire safety and emergency system inspections
β Monitoring water systems and carrying out scheduled testing
β Responding to maintenance requests and facilities-related issues
β Supporting contractors and service providers when on site
β Ensuring health and safety procedures are followed at all times
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
β Previous experience in facilities, maintenance, caretaking, estates, or building services
β Practical maintenance skills and the ability to undertake minor repairs
β Experience working in a busy customer-focused environment
β Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and email systems
β Strong communication and organisational skills
β The ability to work independently and manage your workload effectively
β A Full UK Driving Licence (Essential)
Experience with in schools, public sector buildings, healthcare, housing, or commercial facilities would be advantageous.
