Are you a hands-on Facilities Assistant, Maintenance Operative, Caretaker, or Estates Assistant looking for your next opportunity?

We're recruiting for a Facilities Assistant to join a busy and professional facilities team in Midlothian. This is a varied role where no two days are the same, offering the chance to work across building maintenance, site upkeep, compliance checks, and general facilities support.

The Role

As a Facilities Assistant, you will play a key role in ensuring buildings and grounds are maintained to a high standard, providing a safe and welcoming environment for staff, visitors, and service users.

Key responsibilities include:

βœ” Carrying out basic building maintenance and minor repairs

βœ” Replacing lighting and undertaking routine maintenance tasks

βœ” Supporting the upkeep of external areas, including grounds, pathways, and parking facilities

βœ” Conducting routine compliance checks and recording results

βœ” Assisting with fire safety and emergency system inspections

βœ” Monitoring water systems and carrying out scheduled testing

βœ” Responding to maintenance requests and facilities-related issues

βœ” Supporting contractors and service providers when on site

βœ” Ensuring health and safety procedures are followed at all times

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

βœ” Previous experience in facilities, maintenance, caretaking, estates, or building services

βœ” Practical maintenance skills and the ability to undertake minor repairs

βœ” Experience working in a busy customer-focused environment

βœ” Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and email systems

βœ” Strong communication and organisational skills

βœ” The ability to work independently and manage your workload effectively

βœ” A Full UK Driving Licence (Essential)

Experience with in schools, public sector buildings, healthcare, housing, or commercial facilities would be advantageous.
