Job Description

The staff member will be responsible for recruiting, enrolling, and advising 125 Veterans served by the Veterans Upward Bound program. Responsibilities include interviewing and assessing students’ educational and financial needs, developing Individualized Success Plans (ISPs), and providing guidance in admissions, financial aid, academic counseling, career options, and college transfer opportunities. The role involves managing an individual caseload, conducting counseling sessions, assisting with college transfer tours and cultural events, and engaging with campus and community Veterans organizations.

Establishing communication with military units, Veterans organizations, and community partners is essential.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Enroll and advise eligible participants, maintaining accurate and confidential records for 125 students.
  • Assist with applications, surveys, and data entry; obtain student records and conduct referrals.
  • Schedule and facilitate workshops on college preparation, financial literacy, and career awareness.
  • Assess student needs, assist with financial aid, and report on student performance.
  • Identify trends and develop processes to improve retention and enrollment.
  • Track resource usage and aid adequacy.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Counseling, Education, Public Administration, Social Sciences, STEM, or related field.
  • Knowledge of veteran-specific challenges and student retention strategies.
  • Experience in academic advising, program development, or related fields.
  • One year of relevant experience.
  • Strong communication skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office and database software.
  • Valid driver’s license with a good safety record.
  • Ability to operate office equipment and attend recruiting events.
  • Ability to work remotely with flexible options.
