The Transportation Driver is responsible for the safe driving and operation of DRV vehicles for off-campus scheduled resident activities for the Health Center, Assisted Living Facility and Independent Living. The Transportation Driver works under the direction of the Facility Operations Director, in cooperation with the Transportation Coordinator.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides safe, courteous and timely transportation for residents of DRV.
  • Insures the safety of residents when loading and unloading passengers.
  • Maintains daily mileage logs and performs pre-trip vehicle inspections each day.
  • Insures vehicles are cleaned on a regular basis.
  • Assists in establishing routes and timelines for activities related to transportation.
  • Abides by company policies and procedures and guidelines, including DRV Personnel Handbook.
  • Complies with HIPPA privacy rules and regulations.
  • Coordinates transportation and appointment scheduling with other departments as necessary, communicating schedule changes efficiently and quickly.
  • Creates and maintains an atmosphere of warmth and personal interest. Promotes a calm yet engaging environment throughout the organization.
  • Attends and participates in Staff meetings, in-service training programs, continuing educational programs to maintain licensure and other meetings as assigned.
  • Follows all safety standards and performs work in a safe manner, including infection control and following OSHA guidelines.
  • Attends meetings with Transportation Coordinator and Director of Facility Operations, keeping them apprised of situations and incidents as they occur.
  • Performs other duties as directed by the Facility Operations Director.
Qualifications:

Education and Experience Requirements
  • Have a High School diploma or GED; must have the ability to read, write and follow oral and written directions and road signs; must have a valid CDL driver’s license with passenger endorsement and an acceptable driving record.
  • Must be able to follow safety and emergency procedures, including securing of residents and wheelchairs in vehicles.
  • Must be able to meet the public and interact well with people, and the ability to work and use communication equipment provided.
  • Must have computer skills at an intermediate level to utilize email, manage the functions of a basic smart phone and operate vehicle navigation systems.
  • Must report any traffic violations or MVA to DRV and the Director of Facility Operations. This includes any damage to the DRV vehicles.
  • Must be able to work independently and willing to flex hours if necessary.
  • Must be able to deal tactfully and pleasantly with staff, residents, family members and visitors.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to sit, stand, bend, and drive intermittently during working hours.
  • Requires varying degrees of pushing and pulling.
  • May be required to work outside in extreme weather conditions; rain, wind, sun.
  • Work environment is primarily in buildings and vehicles; car, van or multi-passenger bus.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds unassisted.
  • Must be able to safely push a total combined weight of 250 pounds on a wheeled device (wheelchair) unassisted for purposes of securing and transporting residents in vehicles.
