Flex HR is partnering with a Dallas based client to find a Staff Accountant!

Staff Accountant

We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Staff Accountant to join our finance team. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing reports, reconciling accounts, and supporting month-end and year-end close processes. The ideal candidate has a strong accounting foundation and a desire to grow within a nonprofit environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and post journal entries; maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close processes
  • Perform monthly reconciliations for bank accounts, credit cards, and balance sheet accounts
  • Reconcile bank statements and investigate discrepancies
  • Track grant spending, ensure compliance with donor restrictions, and assist with audits and regulatory filings (e.g., 1099s)
  • Monitor expenses against budget, track budget-to-actual variances, and assist with budget preparation
  • Manage full-cycle accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR), including recording incoming donations
  • Input payroll data and prepare related journal entries
  • Prepare financial reports, schedules, and supporting documentation as needed
  • Support internal and external audits by providing documentation and explanations
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, and internal accounting policies
  • Identify and resolve accounting discrepancies
  • Assist with budgeting and forecasting activities as needed
Qualifications & Skills
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Experience: 1–5 years of accounting experience; nonprofit experience preferred but not required
  • Technical

    Skills:

    • Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., Quick Books, MIP, or other ERP systems)
    • Strong Microsoft Excel skills
  • Knowledge:
    • Understanding of GAAP, nonprofit accounting, fund accounting, and 501(c)(3) regulations
  • Soft Skills:
    • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
    • High ethical standards and integrity
    • Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively
