Function:
Tax Compliance / Tax Preparation

About the Role

Taxceed is growing, and we're looking for an experienced Senior Tax Accountant who can independently prepare accurate, complete, and review-ready U.S. tax returns.

Our clients are primarily business owners whose business and personal finances are closely connected. Accurate tax preparation is the foundation of our ability to help them reduce taxes, avoid costly mistakes, and make better financial decisions.

Your mission is to own the preparation of assigned tax returns from start to finish, including reviewing financial information, reconciling accounting records, applying tax law, investigating discrepancies, and delivering complete work ready for final review.

We're not looking for someone who simply enters numbers into tax software. We need someone who understands the accounting behind the return, thinks critically, catches their own mistakes, and takes responsibility for getting the work done.

This is an ownership role. You are expected to work independently, communicate proactively, and continuously improve the quality and efficiency of your work.

The Three Outcomes You'll Own

1. Accurate Tax Returns:
Independently prepare federal and state individual and business tax returns, including Forms 1040, 1120-S, and 1065. Every return should be complete, technically accurate, and supported by organized work papers.

2. Review-Ready Work:
Reconcile financial statements, prepare book-to-tax adjustments, investigate discrepancies, and thoroughly review your own work before submission. The goal is minimal corrections during final review.

3. Reliable Execution:
Manage assigned work, identify missing information early, communicate blockers, meet deadlines, and resolve review comments. Work should move forward without constant follow-up or supervision.

Key Responsibilities
  • Independently prepare Forms 1040, 1120-S, and 1065, including applicable federal and state schedules
  • Review prior-year returns, financial statements, general ledgers, and supporting documents
  • Prepare book-to-tax reconciliations, including Schedules L, M-1, and M-2
  • Reconcile balance sheets, retained earnings, shareholder basis, distributions, and loans

Prepare depreciation schedules and evaluate business deductions, elections, and carry forwards
  • Investigate discrepancies and ensure amounts reported on returns are supported by work papers
Quality Control & Technical Judgment
  • Perform comprehensive self-reviews before submitting returns for final review
  • Identify missing information, unusual transactions, and potential errors
  • Research tax questions using authoritative sources and document conclusions
  • Identify potential tax planning opportunities and elevate material issues
  • Maintain clear, complete work papers and follow standardized preparation checklists
  • Manage assigned returns through preparation, review, and filing readiness
  • Maintain accurate task statuses and deadlines in Karbon
  • Communicate progress, questions, and blockers proactively
  • Resolve review comments promptly and completely
  • Identify opportunities to simplify, standardize, and automate recurring work
  • Use modern technology and AI tools responsibly while independently verifying accuracy
Qualifications Required
  • 4+ years of hands-on U.S. tax preparation experience, including multiple completed tax seasons
  • Demonstrated ability to independently prepare Forms 1040, 1120-S, and 1065
  • Strong understanding of U.S. individual and pass-through business taxation

Solid accounting knowledge, including financial statements, book-to-tax reconciliations, and balance sheet analysis
  • Experience using professional U.S. tax preparation software

Strong analytical skills, technical judgment, and attention to detail
  • Ability to investigate and resolve routine tax issues independently
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage deadlines, take ownership, and deliver accurate work without close supervision
  • We value demonstrated ability and judgment more than credentials or years of experience alone.
Preferred
  • CPA, Enrolled Agent, or equivalent professional qualification
  • Experience with Intuit Pro Connect Tax Online
  • Proficiency with Quick Books Online and Excel or Google Sheets
  • Familiarity with Karbon or similar practice management software
  • Experience with multi-state returns, real estate taxation, and closely held businesses
