Central Market is a specialty grocery that started in Austin, Texas in 1994, and has grown to multiple locations across the state. What makes Central Market one of the freshest markets in the country? Try a sumptuous selection of everything edible, for starters. We go straight to the source to bring you the finest food and drink the world has to offer.

With hundreds of cheeses, thousands of wines, acres of produce, and aisles of experts, Central Market is a foodie's wonderland. Our commitment beyond the plate is another reason we're a cut above. We believe food is a way of uniting families and communities, of preserving cultures, and of starting new traditions. Each of our 10 Stores is a market in the truest sense and is a place to exchange goods, services, and ideas for those really into food.

Responsibilities
  • As an Art Specialist at Central Market, you'll bring the Central Market brand experience to life in our Stores. Each Store reflects a unique expression of our brand that builds a stage to tell our product stories.
  • Design, develop, and produce hand‑crafted eye‑catching artwork and displays to tell product stories that sell products (signs, banners, chalkboards, foam art, sculptures).
  • Serve as Central Market Brand Ambassador in the own Store, ensuring all art and event experiences enhance and align with the Store's unique look and Division‑provided event concepts.
  • Research product information, themes, cultures, and products for signature events to ensure authenticity.
  • Create chalkboard art in key departments that helps tell product stories, share timely deals, and sell product.
  • Produce materials such as banners, menus, handouts, posters, badge flappers, internal communications, etc.
  • Conceptualize and create camera‑ready painted signs, foam art, and sculptures in various sizes and mediums to promote and help merchandise products.
  • Create larger‑scale art pieces that include materials like foam board, paper, plaster, cardboard, wood, fabric, and found materials.
  • Complete superficial sculpture, 3‑D layering, and faux techniques (wood, marble, stone, paper, metal, etc.).
  • Manage weekly sale sign production, including attribute signs and pricing tags.
  • Maintain the studio, including weekly cleaning duties, storage of signs and props, and maintenance of tools (computer, printer, laminator).
  • Research and stay current on different styles and techniques.
  • Decorate for in‑store partner celebrations and events.
Requirements
  • 1+ years of experience in commercial art, freelance, or studio work.
  • Technical knowledge of basic construction and tools such as hammers, screwdrivers, routers, jigsaws, and drills.
  • Strong understanding of acrylic‑ and latex‑based paints, paint‑brush control, composition, color theory, value (light and shadow), and perspective.
  • Understanding of glue, adhesives, chemicals, stains, treatments, and solvents.
