Summary

The VA North Texas Health Care System is seeking Physician (Psychiatrist) positions at various locations. Education Debt Reduction Program is authorized. Recruitment or Relocation incentives may be available for highly qualified candidates.

Qualifications

To qualify, applicants must meet the basic and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Pending training or license requirements may be temporarily accepted. Current VA employees who met previous standards are deemed qualified.

Basic Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship:
    Non-citizens only if qualified citizens are unavailable
  • Education:

    MD or equivalent from an approved school
  • License:
    Current, full, unrestricted license to practice medicine in the U.S.
  • Residency Training:
    Completed approved residency leading to board eligibility
  • English Proficiency:
    Proficiency in spoken and written English
  • Preferred Experience:

    Board certification or eligibility, Buprenorphine treatment, virtual care experience
  • Physical Requirements:

    Moderate lifting/carrying, reaching, use of fingers, walking, visual and hearing requirements, emotional stability

Duties

  • This is an open continuous announcement until November 07, 2025, or positions are filled. The first review date is September 10, 2025.
  • Positions are full-time in the Mental Health Team at VA North Texas. Responsibilities include providing comprehensive psychiatric care, including evaluations, pharmacotherapy, and psychotherapy.
  • Competence in managing diverse clinical problems such as PTSD, mood, anxiety, psychotic disorders, substance use, and psychiatric issues in the elderly is required.
  • Supervision of healthcare professionals and trainees, including medical students and residents, may be involved.
  • The facility offers a range of mental health services and is involved in active research and education programs.
  • Work schedule:

    Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, with light on-call duties. Alternative schedules may be available.
