The Baylor University Medical Center (BUMC) in Dallas, TX, part of Baylor Scott & White Health (BSWH), the largest not‑for‑profit healthcare provider in the state of Texas, is seeking a collaborative, transformational, and visionary leader with a strong clinical and academic foundation as the next Chief of Surgery.
Position OverviewThe BUMC Chief of Surgery will develop a vision for the Department of Surgery through the advancement of clinical programs, quality improvement, education and research. The incumbent will guide the transformation of Modular care delivery in all areas of surgery and enhance the integration of care between departments, promoting exemplary outcome performance in nationally recognized domains and the perpetual goal of Zero Harm.
The successful candidate will demonstrate modern leadership acumen, forging alliances across the organization and beyond, and maintaining a continuous process‑improvement focus. This physician will also mentor peers and learners, cultivate strong relationships, and lead a multifaceted service line with excellence.
- Translate organizational strategy to a departmental vision and develop exemplary programs to achieve a top‑tier, nationally ranked department.
- Provide strategic direction and leadership for the department in its clinical booty, academic, research, and administrative missions.

- Serve as a physician champion and leader for the provision of the highest quality healthcare and clinical performance excellence.
- Oversee quality improvement projects and committees fostering a culture of Zero Harm and continuous improvement.
- Support clinical and translational research that advances BSWH’s clinical and educational objectives.
- Participate in the development of extramural research funding, endowment, and other initiatives.
- Support surgery residency and fellowship training programs, and be personally involved and engaged with medical students, residents, and fellows.
- Perform other appropriate duties as required in a competent, professional, and courteous manner.

CandidateQualifications
- Hold or be able to obtain an unrestricted Texas medical license.
- Certified by the appropriate certifying board in a surgical field and have at least five years of academic practice and leadership experience.
- Qualified for faculty appointment in the department at the rank of professor or associate professor.
- National recognition as a clinical leader, clinician scientist, and/or educator.
- Experience in operational and financial management and leadership in a hospital, academic healthcare center, or academic group practice environment. Additional training in management or administration is preferred.
