Department Summary

UNT Dallas athletics supports 6 intercollegiate sports. The department is a member of the NAIA as well as the Sooner Athletic Conference. Its administrators, staff, coaches and students follow the 5 core values of the NAIA including respect, responsibility, integrity sportsmanship, and servant leadership while also following the missing of UNT Dallas.

Position Overview

The Assistant Track & Field Coach provides coaching expertise and operational support for all jump events, including high jump, long jump, triple jump, and pole vault. This role supports student‑athlete development while advancing the mission, values, and competitive goals of the Track & Field program.

Minimum Qualifications

1–2 years in a collegiate athletic department setting.

Skills and Abilities

The ideal candidate possesses strong knowledge of all jump events, training principles, biomechanics, and safety protocols. They demonstrate effective coaching, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to evaluate technique, design training plans, and support athlete development. The role requires the ability to build positive relationships, uphold compliance standards, and contribute to a collaborative team environment. Experience with recruiting and performance analysis tools is also beneficial.

Job Duties
  • Coach and develop student‑athletes in all jump events.
  • Create and implement training plans and practice sessions.
  • Teach proper technique, safety, and event fundamentals.
  • Assist with meet preparation, competition setup, and travel.
  • Track athlete progress and adjust training as needed.
  • Help recruit prospective student‑athletes.
  • Support academic monitoring and athlete well‑being.
  • Maintain jump equipment and ensure safety standards.
  • Communicate regularly with the Head Coach and staff.
  • Promote a positive, disciplined, and inclusive team culture.
Physical Requirements
  • Communicating with others to exchange information.
  • Lifting and moving objects up to 20 pounds.
  • Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
  • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
Environmental Hazards
  • Elevated temperatures.
  • Low temperatures.
  • Noisy environments.
  • Outdoor elements such as precipitation and wind.
Work Schedule

Schedule may vary; night and weekends.
