Anticipated SPED Self-Contained Teacher (Grades: EC-5)

Responsibilities- Collaborate with students, parents, and staff to develop Individual Education Plans (IEP) through the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process for each student assigned.
- Implement an instructional, therapeutic, or skills‑development program for assigned students and provide written evidence of preparation.
- Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of students’ learning styles and needs.
- Work cooperatively with classroom teachers to modify regular curricula as needed, and assist special‑education students in regular classes with assignments.
- Participate in ARD Committee meetings regularly and share the responsibility of interpreting educational programs to the community through open‑house and PTA meetings.
- Consult with classroom teachers regarding student behavior management according to IEP and present subject matter according to IEP guidelines.
- Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing; compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and required documents.
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
- Manage student behavior, administer discipline, and intervene in crises, including physically restraining students as necessary according to IEP.
- Stay informed of and comply with federal, state, district, and school regulations and policies for special‑education teachers.
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance at the worksite.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the ARD Committee process and IEP goal‑setting and implementation.
- General knowledge of curriculum and instruction.
- Proficiency with computer software such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Understanding of laws, regulations, practices, principles, and procedures pertaining to special education.
- Ability to write clear and concise evidence statements and narrative reports.
- Tact and diplomacy in working with district and non‑district personnel.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university; valid Texas teacher certificate with required endorsements for subject and subject level.
- Flexibility to adapt to a rapidly changing environment.
- Willingness to remain current with the latest developments in the profession.
The noise level is usually moderate. Travel throughout the district is integral. A remote arrangement is not an option for campus‑based employees; regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is essential.
