Position: IEP Instructor (Part-Time)

Basic Responsibilities

  • Must be a Christian who is a member of a church that holds Jesus Christ to be their Lord and Savior, and who holds solely the Old Testament and New Testament as sacred Scriptures.
  • Must be a member of an evangelical church and regularly active in local worship.
  • Teach English as a Second Language courses to international students.
  • Provide personal service in guiding students to achieve their goals.

  • Teach IEP classes.
  • Lead and/or participate in scheduled IEP off‑campus activities.
  • Give guidance to IEP classes.
  • Develop further professionally.
  • Work together with other IEP faculty and staff as a team.
Qualifications
  • Must be in agreement with the Christian principles and doctrines set forth by Dallas Baptist University.
  • Should have a master’s degree in TESL, linguistics, or a closely related field such as English or education from a regionally accredited institution. If the master’s degree is in a closely related field and the undergraduate field was not TESL or linguistics, the faculty member should have had a minimum of six graduate hours of TESL, or the equivalent number of hours in a form of in‑service training, or extensive field experience.

    A 3.0 GPA or higher would be expected for the graduate degree.
  • In rare circumstances, a person with exceptional experience, but without a graduate degree, may be employed with the condition that he/she will pursue the appropriate graduate certification from an accredited institution.
  • Should have extensive experience in teaching English to internationals, some of which preferably was overseas.
  • Should have at least two outstanding recommendations from former employers or instructors affirming Christian commitment, academic ability, teaching skills, interpersonal skills, flexibility, and a servant attitude.
  • Must have native or near‑ability in English skills or demonstrated sufficient English ability by completing a master’s degree from a program conducted in English by a regionally accredited institution or the required TOEFL scores listed in the Policy on Instructor Language Proficiency.
  • Must be able to utilize technology tools effectively for both online students and students present for face‑to‑face class.
Specific Duty Areas
  • Classroom instruction: teach in accordance with the IEP educational philosophy and classroom procedures, assure that course objectives are met, and evaluate the students.
  • Teach in a communicative style, using the IEP philosophy as a foundation.
  • Conduct classes in accordance with the classroom procedures outlined in the IEP Handbook.
  • Utilize online meeting tools (e.g., Zoom, Collaborate, Teams) to include remote students actively in the classroom.
  • Utilize the online Learning Management System (e.g., Blackboard) for posting lessons, assignments, and assessments.
  • Utilize additional online and technology tools as part of the curriculum and methods of instruction.
  • Prepare a syllabus for each course by the first week of the term, utilizing the course tools inside Blackboard. The syllabus must be posted in Blackboard and a copy submitted to the IEP office.
  • Develop or update a detailed curriculum guide to be completed one week after the end of the term.
  • Turn in monthly updates on each student's progress for the advisor conferences.
  • Submit final grades to university records systems (Self‑Service) and to the IEP office (SharePoint) by the designed date of each term.
  • Evaluate class textbooks and make suggestions for improvement in materials, curricula, program, or facilities.
  • In case of illness or other unavoidable cause for absence, notify the IEP Director as soon as possible so that a substitute may be arranged. Keep a set of materials available for the substitute in case of an unforeseen absence.
  • Culture events and on‑ and off‑campus activities: share responsibilities in the scheduled IEP culture events and activities.
  • Drive and/or provide leadership for field trips or evening culture events. Current assignments are:
