Primary Purpose

The School Counselor will work with school leaders, faculty, staff, students, parents, and the community to develop and implement a comprehensive guidance and counseling program for grades 9‑12. They will focus on individual planning, scheduling, and transcript audits, supporting the campus in meeting state testing, graduation requirements, and accountability goals.

Core Responsibilities
  • Manage and audit student schedules for 100% accuracy.
  • Develop and audit four‑year plans using purposeful scheduling.
  • Audit transcripts and evaluate incoming student records.
  • Conduct individual and group counseling sessions.
  • Assist campus leadership with master schedule construction.
  • Support all four components of the comprehensive guidance program (individual planning, responsive services, guidance curriculum, and system support).
  • Coordinate standardized testing programs and interpret results.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student assessments and records.
  • Communicate regularly with administrators, faculty, and parents.
  • Serve on committees and attend staff meetings as required.
Qualifications Education / Certification
  • Master’s degree in guidance counseling.
  • Valid Texas counseling certification, or out‑of‑state certification with intent to obtain Texas certification within one year.
Experience
  • At least 2 years of high school counseling experience (preferred).
Special Knowledge / Skills
  • Extensive knowledge of counseling procedures, student appraisal, and career development.
  • Effective communication and human relations skills.
  • Strong decision‑making, planning, and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, SQL Data, and Windows applications.
