Job Description & How to Apply Below
Bring your musicianship into the lesson room

We’re looking for someone who loves both making music and helping others learn to make it. You’re a strong singer who can demonstrate, explain, listen closely, and give clear feedback. You bring sincerity and purpose to your teaching, and you know how to connect solid technique with the music a student is excited to sing.

This opening serves an established group of students studying primarily voice, with some piano and songwriting. Our departing instructor currently teaches a full Monday-Thursday schedule. Approximately 85% of their lessons are 45 or 60 minutes each week- these are students who value the time to explore, practice, and make meaningful progress.

The students you’ll work with

Your students may include a dedicated preteen learning to sing, an experienced vocalist refining their technique, a college student turning lyrics into their first song, or an adult learning to sing while playing piano or guitar.

Some have performance ambitions. Others simply want to become better musicians because music is an important part of their lives. You should feel equally invested in both.

What you’ll do
  • Teach personalized private voice lessons with purposeful warmups, healthy vocal technique, and clear musical goals.
  • Teach piano and help students connect instrumental skills with singing and songwriting.
  • Use contemporary songs students love to develop technique, musicianship, interpretation, and expression.
  • Help emerging songwriters work with lyrics, melody, harmony, and song structure.
  • Coach students on singing while accompanying themselves at the piano or guitar, within your instrumental expertise.
  • Prepare students for performances with attention to musical readiness, confidence, and communication.
  • Give practical guidance for work between lessons and communicate thoughtfully with students and families.
  • Participate in a planned transition to understand continuing students’ goals, repertoire, and progress.
What makes a strong fit
  • Accomplished singing ability and a solid foundation in vocal technique and instruction.
  • Strong piano skills, with the ability to accompany singers and teach private piano students.
  • Experience teaching contemporary voice and helping students develop their own musical expression.
  • Practical songwriting skills and an accessible approach to music theory.
  • The ability to support motivated beginners and challenge intermediate and advanced students.
  • Warmth, directness, preparation, and a dependable weekly commitment.
  • A personal connection to performing, writing, or recording music that informs your teaching.
Schedule and start date

Available teaching hours are Monday-Thursday, noon-8 p.m., and Saturday, 11 a.m.

-5 p.m. Most lessons take place between 3 and 8 p.m.

You do not need to offer every day or the full time window. We’ll work with your availability to develop a consistent weekly schedule. Monday-Wednesday availability is especially helpful for continuity with existing students.

We’d like the right candidate to start as soon as possible and require a start by December 2026.

Compensation and location

This is a W-2 employee position paying $30-40 per teaching hour. Pay is calculated based on teaching hours.

Lessons take place in person at Dallas Academy of Music & Performing Arts, 3415 Milton Ave., in Dallas’s Snider Plaza.

Time to teach deeply. Students to grow with.

An opportunity to work with established students through a thoughtfully planned instructor transition.

Predominantly 45- and 60-minute lessons, allowing time for technique, repertoire, and creative work.

Motivated students ranging from preteens through adults.

A role that brings together singing, piano, songwriting, and performance.

A weekly schedule developed around your availability.

$30-40 per teaching hour as a W-2 employee.
