Senior Structural Technical Manager – GPLA Structural Engineers and Builders
GPLA, part of the DPR Family of Companies, is a leading firm in structural engineering. We are seeking a talented Senior Structural Technical Manager to join our dynamic team.
Job OverviewAs a vital member of the engineering team, you will oversee technical development, training, and project execution. You will lead design activities, establish quality controls, drive technological advances, and mentor a growing group of structural designers and engineers.
Responsibilities- Mentor and manage Structural Designers I & II, Structural Design Engineers, Structural Project Engineers, Project Managers, and Technical Managers.
- Assist in the management and production of drawings, specifications, and calculations from conceptual design to construction documents under project managers.
- Review deliverables to ensure scope and quality standards are met throughout the project life cycle.
- Establish and enforce quality control measures to ensure accurate, reliable, and integrated engineering deliverables.
- Develop and oversee structural designs and analytical models for various building types and materials.
- Conduct and review calculations, analyses, and implement company engineering procedures to ensure structural integrity and code compliance.
- Utilize CAD software (Tekla Structures and other tools) to create 2‑D drawings and 3‑D models.
- Collaborate with and help manage team members to meet project deadlines and deliver high‑quality design solutions.
- Stay current with industry trends, code updates, and advancements in structural design techniques.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement, cost optimization, and efficiency enhancements.
- Provide mentorship, guidance, and professional development opportunities to team members.
- Champion shared leadership values and ensure alignment with company culture and project success.
- Lead the engineering team, ensuring compliance with industry standards and internal procedures.
- Foster a collaborative environment that encourages growth and technical proficiency.
Skills and Abilities
- In‑depth knowledge of structural engineering principles, codes, and standards.
- Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and critical‑thinking skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication for stakeholder collaboration.
- Proficiency with CAD software and structural analysis tools.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced, team‑oriented environment.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
- Commitment to continuous learning and staying updated on industry trends and regulatory changes.
- Proficiency in project management, including planning, scheduling, and budget oversight.
- Minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Engineering with a Structural focus.
- Master’s degree in Structural Engineering preferred.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required;
Structural Engineer (SE) license preferred. - Five years of experience in the building structural engineering field; collective experience of fifteen years is preferred.
- Ability to maintain an NCEES record for licensure.
- Ability to sit or stand at a desk and work at a computer for extended periods.
- Ability to travel to project sites across the country.
- Minimum lifting capacity of 15 pounds, if necessary.
