Senior Fire Protection Engineer – Mission Critical – Dallas/Ft. Worth
The Senior Fire Protection Engineer will lead the design work on multi‑discipline projects and prepare comprehensive fire protection packages including fire suppression, fire alarm, smoke management, and life safety. This position will work on various projects with a diverse portfolio of project types and clients.
Responsibilities- Lead the design, specification, and multi‑discipline coordination of fire protection systems: wet‑pipe, dry‑pipe, pre‑action, deluge, foam/water, etc. Fire water supply infrastructure including storage tanks, pumps, piping, and associated appurtenances.
- Lead outdoor fire suppression systems, monitors, spray, exposure protection, voice evacuation alarm systems, initiating devices, and releasing systems.
- Conduct quality reviews of fire protection calculations including hydraulic analysis, battery calculations, and voltage drop calculations.
- Evaluate building and life safety requirements such as area/height limits, construction types, fire resistive assemblies, occupancy classifications, hazards, egress, smoke management systems.
- Conduct construction administration quality reviews: coordination with field personnel, review of shop drawings, shop calculations, field inspections, and testing.
- Lead site evaluations and documentation of existing fire protection systems.
- Prepare and present technical reports for clients and industry publications.
- Build and maintain client, contractor relationships; develop new business opportunities.
- Manage sales and marketing efforts and identify key pursuits.
- Ensure customer satisfaction goals and expectations are met.
- Develop cost proposals, qualification statements, and financial performance objectives.
- Prepare and present project budgets and cost estimates; report performance.
- Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to the fire protection practice.
- Maintain QA/QC process adherence.
- Comply with company and site safety policies.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Protection Engineering or related field from an ABET‑accredited program and 7+ years experience.
- Alternative:
Bachelor’s in Fire Protection or related Engineering Technology from an ABET program and successful FE exam, 7+ years experience. - Alternative:
Master’s in Fire Protection Engineering and 6+ years experience. - Expert knowledge of engineering techniques, building codes, NFPA standards, FM Global datasheets, military standards, refinery/industrial API guidelines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Critical thinking, analytical problem‑solving, and quantitative skills.
- Ability to lead project/discipline design teams.
- Ability to obtain and maintain facility and data access for clients (DOE, aerospace, military, etc.).
- Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred.
- NICET certification in Water‑Based System Layout preferred.
- NIC certification in Fire Alarm Systems preferred.
- NICET certification in Special Hazard Systems preferred.
