The Electrical System Engineer II plays a key role in the New Product Development (NPD) team, supporting the design, validation, and release of residential and commercial & industrial (C&I) energy storage systems (ESS). This role focuses on system‑level electrical design, documentation, component integration, and cross‑functional collaboration to bring next‑generation ESS products to market.

Key Responsibilities Electrical System Design & Documentation
  • Develop and maintain system‑level electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and single‑line diagrams for residential and C&I ESS solutions.
  • Own and manage the Bill of Materials (BOM) for the complete ESS system, including protective devices, wiring, enclosures, control circuitry, and interconnects.
  • Design and review protection circuitry, grounding schemes, and safety interfaces in accordance with industry standards.
  • Perform system‑level Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) to identify risks and propose mitigations.
Technology & Component Expertise
  • Apply working knowledge of lithium‑ion batteries, battery management systems (BMS), and battery protection architectures.
  • Understand grid‑connected bi‑directional inverter topologies, including AC/DC conversion, grid integration, and system efficiency impacts.
  • Support communication architecture design using CANbus, Modbus RTU/TCP, IsoSPI, and other digital interfaces used within ESS products.
Compliance & Certification Support
  • Work closely with compliance teams to ensure designs meet relevant industry and safety standards, including UL 9540, UL 1741 SA/SB, UL 9540A, and UL 1973.
  • Participate in certification testing, prepare documentation packages, and support issue resolution during the compliance process.
Supplier & Cross‑Functional Collaboration
  • Collaborate with battery and inverter suppliers to evaluate new technologies, review specifications, and support product integration.
  • Coordinate with internal partners in Product Line Management (PLM), compliance, manufacturing, and production engineering to ensure smooth product development and launch.
  • Provide technical guidance during design reviews, prototype builds, and engineering validation activities.
Leadership & Mentorship
  • Mentor junior engineers and interns in system design fundamentals, lab practices, test environments, and safety procedures.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within the NPD and lab teams.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline;
    Master’s preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in electrical system design, preferably in energy storage, power electronics, or renewable energy industries.
  • Hands‑on experience with ESS components such as Li‑ion batteries, BMS, contractors, fuses, inverters, and communication hardware.
  • Familiarity with UL standards relevant to ESS products.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with experience conducting FMEA and system troubleshooting.
  • Effective communicator able to work in cross‑functional environments.
