Overview

Transmission Engineering Supervisor at Westwood Professional Services, Inc. Westwood has a highly experienced and dynamic team dedicated to providing high-level professional services to our clients. The Transmission Engineering Supervisor is primarily responsible for supervising a staff of technical designers and engineers responsible for the development of engineering designs, cost estimates, and communication of technical and design information to our customers. The supervisor manages and evaluates the performance of assigned technical staff and proactively initiates measures to correct instances of work product not meeting established quality standards.

The Transmission Engineering Supervisor ensures compliance with client procedures, design standards, state and federal regulatory requirements, and safety code requirements. Collaborates closely with engineers performing substation, transmission, renewable energy, power storage, and communication design.

• Supervise technical staff in the preparation of utility engineering designs, cost estimates, and customer billing.
• Manage schedules and assign technical staff projects and daily work.
• Develop the technical staff through mentoring and instruction on technical engineering principles, and governing electrical and safety codes.
• Instruct and train the technical staff on company policies, safety, and terms under which Westwood provides service.
• Instruct and train the technical staff in the use of computer systems and software, tools, equipment, and company-owned vehicles.
• Provide guidance for professional communication with internal and external stakeholders.
• Coordinate internal and external reviews of designs prior to submissions.
• Evaluate the performance and development of technical staff.
• Collaborate with department managers to develop, evaluate, and implement new policies and procedures reflecting best engineering practices.
• Collaborate with other departments on company-wide initiatives.
• Perform the duties of the Transmission Engineering Manager when the manager is unavailable.
• Maintain strong relationships with existing clients and pursue opportunities with potential future clients.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil/Structural or Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• Active PE licensure.
• 10+ years of experience in Power Transmission Design (supervisory level).
• Professional disposition and openness to planning and execution of projects by staff.
• Ability to supervise a team of engineers and engineering technicians while maintaining quality, consistency, accuracy, and reliability of work product.
• Advanced knowledge of overhead and underground transmission facilities and integration into daily activities.
• Experience with NESC, ASCE, IEEE, and other industry standards.
• Proficiency in PLS-CADD, MFAD, AutoCAD, and other industry software.
• Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).

• Advanced degree in an associated field.
• Experience leading an engineering team with resource management and delegation of tasks.
• Experience providing technical direction for a department or organization in the field of expertise.
