Our work spans engineering, construction, procurement, operations management, and multi‑phase industrial buildouts. We operate in a fast‑paced, detail‑driven environment where precision, organization, and reliability are essential. As we continue to expand, we are building a strong operations team to support our long‑term strategic growth.

The Industrial Estimator will play a critical role in evaluating project costs, supporting bid development, and working closely with engineering, procurement, and operations to ensure HKR delivers accurate and competitive proposals.

Job Description

This senior‑level position is ideal for a highly experienced estimator with deep expertise in industrial, energy, and infrastructure projects. The Industrial Estimator will be responsible for leading the development of complex cost estimates, supporting EPC planning, and informing strategic decision‑making for major industrial buildouts.

The role requires exceptional technical knowledge, strong communication skills, and the ability to collaborate across engineering, operations, and executive leadership. The Estimator will report directly to the Owner and contribute significantly to HKR’s competitiveness and long‑term growth.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the preparation of detailed cost estimates for industrial, energy, and infrastructure projects.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documents to determine labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor needs.
  • Perform advanced quantity takeoffs across civil, mechanical, electrical, and structural disciplines.
  • Build cost models and multi‑scenario pricing for conceptual through detailed design phases.
  • Identify cost risks, schedule impacts, and value‑engineering opportunities.
  • Prepare and review bid packages for major industrial projects.
  • Evaluate subcontractor and vendor quotes for scope accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
  • Support bid strategy discussions with ownership and senior leadership.
  • Deliver clear pricing summaries, cost narratives, and proposal documentation.
Project Analysis & Strategic Support
  • Collaborate on constructability reviews, scheduling assumptions, and phasing plans.
  • Provide cost input for feasibility analyses and project development scenarios.
  • Partner with Engineering and Procurement to align cost assumptions with real‑world field constraints.
  • Advise leadership on cost drivers, market conditions, and competitive positioning.
Cost Data Management
  • Maintain and continuously improve HKR’s historical cost database and benchmark pricing.
  • Build and refine standardized estimating templates, cost libraries, and workflows.
  • Ensure estimates are version‑controlled, documented, and audit‑ready.
  • Solicit, analyze, and qualify subcontractor and supplier pricing.
  • Maintain strong relationships with industry vendors to stay current on pricing trends.
  • Participate in pre‑bid meetings, site visits, and scope reviews when required.
Required Qualifications
  • 20+ years of experience in industrial, energy, or large‑scale construction estimating.
  • Extensive experience with EPC, industrial, or power generation project scopes.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and technical specifications.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare accurate conceptual, budgetary, and detailed estimates.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and common estimating platforms.
  • Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple simultaneous estimates.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with major power, pipeline, manufacturing, or heavy industrial facilities.
  • Familiarity with SAGE, Bluebeam, Procore, or similar tools.
  • Experience participating in EPC bid reviews or owner‑side estimating.
  • Knowledge of Primavera P6 or MS Project is a plus.
Professional Development Requirement

To support continuous improvement and evolving project demands, the Industrial Estimator is expected to:

  • Complete annual training related to estimating, industrial systems, or software tools.
  • Maintain awareness of market pricing trends and subcontractor capabilities.
  • Stay current on updated workflows, project standards, and company procedures.
