Senior Air Quality Project Manager – Austin, TX

Join WSP as a Senior Air Quality Project Manager in our Austin, TX office. This hybrid role will support projects with our Earth & Environment Team and help meet our clients’ objectives.

Job Description

WSP is a leading global engineering and professional services firm dedicated to serving local communities. We are looking for an experienced project manager to oversee air‑quality permitting and compliance services, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations.

Responsibilities
  • Prepares proposals for air quality permitting and environmental support projects
  • Manages projects and tasks related to complex air quality permitting and compliance services
  • Assists clients in determining federal and state air quality regulatory applicability and develops strategies and systems for compliance
  • Interfaces with State air quality agencies and EPA on behalf of clients
  • Works collaboratively with WSP colleagues, external companies, and attorneys in support of clients’ air quality needs
  • Advocates for WSP’s clients, keeping them informed of pertinent regulatory matters and other issues that impact their business
  • Participates in public meetings and hearings on behalf of clients
  • Calculates emissions and evaluates air emissions control technologies
  • Participates in environmental compliance audits
  • Performs and ensures QA/QC of technical work
  • Mentors WSP’s technical staff for their professional development
  • Develops business for WSP by networking through face‑to‑face visits with potential clients and participating in professional trade associations by attending conferences, trade shows, and webinars
  • Supports business development activities by helping to develop internal marketing materials and contributes technical articles to WSP publications
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related science or engineering
  • 12+ years of air permitting and compliance experience in Texas
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills including report writing, oral presentations, and direct verbal communication
  • Experience in interpreting and developing compliance strategies for State and Federal air quality regulations and proven problem‑solving skills
  • Availability to travel up to 20% of the time
  • Valid State driver’s license
  • Electric generation and/or cement manufacturing air permitting and regulatory expertise, preferably in Texas
  • Air dispersion modeling familiarity
