Overview

Provide management in finance and accounting in order to ensure finances are managed according to policies and procedures and GAAP:

  • Oversee and review general accounting functions
  • Assist in maintaining chart of accounts
  • Complete transfers of investment funds in accordance with Endowment Trust decisions at the direction of the Senior Controller, CFO and/or Board of Trustees.
  • Assist in the review and approval of journal entries for cash receipts, accounts receivable, payroll, accruals, and general accounting.
  • Assists in the review and approval of accounts payable batches.
  • Review and approve Advancement module transactions prior to general ledger posting.
  • Prepare 403(b) reconciliation.
  • Prepare detailed financial reports and statements periodically or upon request.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial reports and supporting documentation for finance committee meetings.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly financial reports for the CFO.
  • Prepare detailed endowment reporting of contributions, and investment activity.
  • Prepare analysis of temporarily restricted accounts activity.
  • Under the direction of the Senior Controller, assist in the coordination of the audit of the school and ensure tax filings are prepared in a timely manner.
  • Assist in the timely execution of the annual audit of the school and 403(b) retirement plan.
  • Assist in the preparation of the annual financial report for ESD Consolidated, ESD Permanent Endowment Trust, and ESD 403(b) Retirement Plan.
  • Assist the Senior Controller with preparing Form 990 for the Trust.
Maintain detailed subsidiary information
  • Maintain Endowment investment information
  • Review and approve all recorded investment activity, including transfers, gains and losses.
  • Monitor all Advancement module contributions to endowment funds.
  • Maintain detailed reports of unitized endowment activity by donors.
  • Classify and compile endowment activity for annual report notes.
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
  • Adheres to policies related to boundaries with students.
  • Attends required abuse risk management training.
  • Reports suspicious and inappropriate behaviors.
  • Follows mandated abuse reporting requirements.
  • Adheres to job specific abuse risk management responsibilities.
  • Job involves attention to detail and accuracy, working long periods of time at a computer.
  • Offices are located in an open area in order to assist faculty, staff and parents with questions.
  • Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling.
  • Generally 40% sitting, 40% walking and 20% standing.
  • Minimal temperature variations.
  • Generally hazard free environment.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Minimum of five years of relevant experience in a nonprofit environment, with similar complexity, and demonstrated financial administrative leadership.
  • At least 5 years of accomplishment at senior fiscal management level in a relevant organization, including significant involvement in endowment/investment accounting, budget planning and execution, financial planning and analysis, modeling and forecasting, and general accounting functions.
  • In-depth knowledge of finance and accounting systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of business accounting policies, procedures, practices, and software programs.
  • Advanced User of Excel (i.e. dynamic charts with formulas, pivot tables, logic functions, vlookups, basic modeling, etc.).
  • Background and ability to work and communicate with multiple constituencies such as faculty, staff, parents, and Board members.
  • Certified Public Accountant preferred but not required.
